Reflection: Chalk Talk Block3 Only

Through your readings, discussions, etc.., what have you learned so far about the impact of the Holocaust? ...the effect of stereotypes, prejudices, racism? ....the effect of the images on the wall?

(What I am looking for in your response is more than just a basic reflection of sorts, but a DEEPER demonstration of your comprehension of this content. I am looking for impactful and relevant responses to show your unyielding capability of synthesizing information together in providing a well-written response.)

  1. So far I have learned that the Holocaust was a very horrible time in life, there was inequality and agreement to genocide of Jews. It allowed the killing of a total of 6 million innocent people, although we can do nothing about it now, we should try to prevent anything like this occurring again, like said in the song "Never Again". It has effected Stereotypes, Prejudice and Racism, by leaving people open minded to how it would feel to deal with it on a daily basis. People know about the Holocaust but they don't take it seriously, they give sympathy for those dead, but if they actually gave an effort to stop it,there wouldn't be stereotypes, prejudice and racism today. They can see the horrific pictures of Jews being tortured, burned alive, shot with their children in their hands, and the inequality they were given and say it was a cruel time period, but racism, prejudice and stereotypes are very much alive today, and there are still hundreds of people who chose to view themselves higher than the rest and wish death among those people. The effect of the pictures on the wall make people get the idea of how their conditions were and how it looked, of course people were told about how they there malnourished , but being able to see the pictures of how severe it was ( seeing their bones bulging out their chest) makes everyone rethink about how serious this matter was.

  2. The effects of the holocaust could never be covered up are looked over. Its terrifying to believe that the actions of one person controlled a nation and the world centuries. Listening to the story of Elie Wisel and to know that that's just one of the stories told by a witness. The impact caused the world to look at anyone with a different view or opinion with a side eye. If you ever try to eliminate a people or show that you have a hatred for a type of people the whole world will be able to have an opinion on it. I believe the holocaust had a great impact on the world because it allowed us as world to come together and defeat a enemy. The negative side of that was that some people got the idea that they could be the new "Hitler" and complete his wishes. The images on the wall really made you think about what you would do if you were that little kid at this time . The gas chambers and "ovens" possibly killing your father and Brother are thoughts you never get out of your head.Looking and realizing that this could have been you if your grandmother had chosen a different religion or you were borne with twin. Seeing that train tracks had a huge affect on me . One because I knew what was happening to all those innocent people ,they were basically riding to their death. The other reason was because the officers of the law trusted to take care of everyone stood there waited to kill some of those people who had done nothing but follow their religion.Hitler in my opinion wouldn't have felt as strong without stereotypes , prejudice, and racism already existing. A person feels better knowing their someone else who feels the same or shares the same ideas.Going through things about the holocaust you learn that stereotypes, prejudice, and racism were major keys with in it . Without these three parts the holocaust might have happen at all. These three things have only left a negative impact on the world. The effects of those words are long term ,no one can forget the first time they were placed out of a group because of their sex , religion, and sexual orientation.

  3. In class so far, I have learned that the Holocaust was a very horrendous time in history. During the Holocaust the Jews were treated like "dogs" and were never treated to the rights they had. Although, Jews were not the only targets, you had the gypsies, mentally ill, and also criminals who was taken away as well. In the song "Never Again" Wu Tang talks about what happens and how people were treated and we shouldn't let this happen to our society again. Stereotypes, Prejudice, and Racism was all described in the Holocaust by all the negative thoughts and hate towards Jews and other people targeted. Nazis/Germans believed that all Jews were bad and should be killed that's why it is like it is today. If people would learn from the past and just not know about it then it wouldn't be so much stereotype, prejudice and racism in the world. If people actually studied and did their research on how the Holocaust was and how it could be repeated then not as many people would hate others just because the way they dress, walk, talk, or even praise up to. Seeing the horrifying images on the wall made me think that if we don't get it together we could be back in the same situation. When I seen the weak men in the concentration camp it made me realize that is was very severe and you could die at the snap of your finger. Also, when I seen those women protesting to either not be killed or to not be put away, it made me feel as if that could've been me because I am a female. The world should really realize that the Holocaust was not just "if you have blue eyes and blonde hair" you were automatically going to be killed. Society needs to really do some digging and learn more and keep it from coming back again.

  4. Through all the discussions we've had thus far I've come to the realization that the events that occurred during the Holocaust are unbearable. In result of the Germans being prejudice, racist, and stereotypical 6 million lives were carelessly taken away with no remorse. The Germans were prejudice against the Jews because Hitler brainwashed them to believe that Jews were the reason they were going through an economic downfall just because some Jews were better off than their neighbors. They were racist towards Jews because they felt as if the Jews were "leaching" off of them and other countries. The Germans were stereotypical towards Jews because they thought since one Jew was well off the rest of them were. Each picture on the wall had its own meaning some deeper than others, some just simple meanings. For example, the picture of the gate entrance into Aushwitz, the words translated into, "work makes you free". Of course we all know that the Jews were headed to the complete opposite of freedom, although there's not much in the picture it has a deeper meaning to it. The image that had the most repetitive question was the Nazi soldier holding a gun up to a parent and his/her child, the most asked question was: Why is he doing this? Does he not feel bad? I commented on some of the questions with the response that he is doing this because it is his job, he has orders to fill and that's what he is going to do. The Holocaust was a catastrophe that we should do everything in our power today to avoid it from happening again, looking into our society today with all the cruel killings and brutal events at this point another Holocaust is in our path.

  5. There is nothing you can tell for why the holocaust happened other than that this was an act of pure hatred and indifference that occurred during this period of time. To be completely honest the act of mass hated and killing makes me sick because me as a person I don’t understand how someone can hate a group of people so much to the point that they want them dead and act on it and get away with it. I have learned that Hitler was a smooth talker much like Donald trump they speak and make ignorant people believe what they believe. The things that are driven into there speeches are pure hatred and ignorance point blank. I have also learned that the people that Hitler hurt are still hurting to this day what he did to those people is unexplainable. The effects that Stereotypes, Prejudice and Racism have had on us have been the same we all know that these things never go away they are just forgotten and then brought up again when it happens again. These things never go away and it makes me sick like in the song “never again” I would like for all these things to never again effect anyone. The image on the wall of the men carrying the bodies made me sick like it just cold how they didn’t have and respect for the dead just carried them around like drag dolls. The image that really hit home was the one of the father trying to protect the child and the Nazi just ignoring the fact that the man child was there. In the image it looks like the Nazi is going to kill the man and scar that poor child for life my killing his father right in front of him. The boy in the picture is probably still have night mare of his farther being killed right in front of him. Things like that never leave you it sticks with you forever like shadow on a sunny day. I feel like something like this should never happen ever again.

  6. Every time I learn about the holocaust, i see or hear about new stuff that i didn't learn before. Its something that the world was forced to witness and go through. The pictures we saw in class were very heartbreaking to look at. The picture of the Nazi about to shoot the woman and her child was probably the worst one to look at. she turned her back away from the gun to make sure that if the Nazi solider fired it, it would hit her first, not her child. she had so much love for her child, but Hitler had so much hate for the Jews. Also, the picture with the women holding their hands up in surrender, was another picture that caught my eye. They were helpless and they couldn't stand up for there selves. Jewish women must have had it the hardest. The way the concentration camps were run was also upsetting. That picture from class was upsetting to look at.Its hard to ever imagine that one man killed 11 million people just because her had a preference. What I've learned from the holocaust is it is very important to accept peoples differences because not everyone is the same. Hitler believed that if he got rid of all the people that are different it will make the world a better place, but that not true. There are people who still don't understand difference in our world today, so we should do everything we cant to prevent the next holocaust

  7. Throughout our discussion about the holocaust, I have learned that it is the biggest example of how stereotype, prejudice and racism. Jewish people have been judged, stereotyped and treated unfairly all throughout history. They have had their homeland taken and have been seen as unequal.Their rights as human beings were taken and they were treated like animals. They were judged for being weird and doing things that were irregular to other religions, restricted from doing certain things like working at specific jobs.

Another thing i learned that had an effect on my understanding of the holocaust were the images we looked at on Wednesday.I saw how much hate and terror they had experienced, it even proved that people didn't know what was going to happen to them because one of the images had a sign that said "Work Equals Freedom". Another picture showed a German soldier preparing to fire his gun at a woman and her child, i hope he didn't want to do this but no one knows. The pictures showed how far hate can go and how it can reach to the point of wishing the end of millions of innocent victims

  8. so far i have learned about the holocaust and the big impact they it had on the world. the holocaust was a big genocide caused by Adolf Hitler during this time Hitler killed over 11,000,000 people 6,000,000 were Jewish people and the other 5,000,00 peole were made up of many groups, Jehovahs's Witneses, gay's and many others.hitler was able to rase to power because he was such a great speaker and was able to persuade the people of Germany to follow and believe in him. he made the Jews work and when he was done with them he sent them to concnettration camps where they were tortured and slowly killed, and others were sent to extermination camps where they were killed with poisonous gasses. He moved the Jews from there homes to ghettos where they were over populated and the jews eventually made there own communities. When Hitler was put in poweer another change he made was that he changed there government to a one party government. The other big impact that Hitler made was that he wanted to own all the lands that he can so he sent his military men other to different areas rto take control of which ended up starting WW2. WW2 started in 1939 and ended in 1945, after the war Hitler killed himself.
