Explain
the following statement using examples from the text: During
the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel changes from a spiritual, sensitive little boy to a
spiritually dead, unemotional man.
Elie Wiesel was a very spiritually sensitive little boy, he was eager to learn more about his religion and his faith was very strong. Maybe it was because God was treating him right, his life was very well. He wasn't given a reason to hate/dislike him. When he was in the Holocaust and encountered all that suffering, in Elies point of view, he saw an absence in God. God allowed all these horrible events to happen to him and his fellow friends and family, which is why Elie turned spiritually dead. He asked himself why he should thank God for anything if God is letting it happen to them and not care, he didn't protect them."For the first time , I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should i bless his name? ... What had I to thank him for?" His time in the holocaust got worse and worse over time, giving him multiple reasons to be mad at god. He got so used to getting mistreated, he was numb to the pain and nothing was really a surprise to him anymore, making him unemotional. It went to the point where he cared more about his life and less about his fathers. "My father had just been struck, before my very eyes, and I had not flickered an eyelid?"
Elie was very spiritual and sensitive boy at the beginning of the story because he was happy and never put in any situations where being mean or not praying was necessary. When he got to the camp he began to change he went from the sheltered little boy who didn’t have a care in the world to someone who is exposed to unthinkable acts of violence. In the story at the beginning he was very happy and wanted to pray because everything was going his way. Then when he entered the camp he became a heartless and spiritually dead man because of the people around him. When he was in the camp it made him stop acting like a boy and start acting like a man. The camp took a spiritual and sensitive boy and turned him into a grumpy old man with no faith or emotion. The things he saw and was put through made him mature much faster than he should have. In the story Elie began to become grumpy man when he was forced to split from his mother and sister, and the next thing that changed Eile was when his father was beat and he did nothing but watch and try to keep himself safe. His next change was when he was beat for seeing the SS having relations with a young German girl. The last thing I think that changed Elie was when the young pipel was hung I think that is what made him become a man with no emotion.
Elie wiesel was a very spirtual little boy,who was more very intereasted in his religon an wanted to learn more about it.He didnt jave a reason to not believ in god an his religion because god has been good to him. When elie wiesel made an transition to the holocausr hia fait was slowly dying,Because he didnt see god worling his magic he had learned. He was starting to believe god wasnt real as he got farther an father envolved in the holocaust. In the beginning of the holocaust transition he was praying an following his spirtual ways; but as he saw how bad kept gettig he was loosing the need to pray an follow his spirtual beliefs to pray if nothing is happening or getting better.
In the story i believe the climax to where he lost his faith was the hanging of young pipel. Piple was know as an angel kid an they were to never be harmed, Young pipel was hung an he was forced to watch him die slowly.Ibelieve at that point he lost all faith because he started asking him self if god is real why is he letting all these horrible things happen? Why should i pray if hes not gonna help ?
In the beginning Elie was all about learning about his faith and religion. He never thought to think of God as a bad person only because he was living a good life. When the Holocaust begin, and time went on he begin to loose his faith. Elie knew that God wouldn't let anything like this happen, so he felt the absent of God. This caused him to go from sensitive and emotional to a tough and cold boy. Everything he saw and said he "Never shall forget..." is what caused most of his coldness and toughness. When Elie and his family was split up this caused him to begin to give up because if he wasn't with his family there was no reason for him to live. This where it only begin, when Elie's father got beat he didn't try to help or ask if he was ok or nothing. The major impact on his faith is when they killed the "Pipel", this caused him to see that God was really absent."Pipel" was a angel because he had a beautiful and soft face with a caring heart, so when "Pipel" was killed he knew that God was absent because he wouldn't kill an angel.
Before Elie Wiesel was deported into the holocaust concentration camps, his faith was strong. He strongly believed that there was a God watching over him. When Moche the Beadle came back from his experience in the mass graves, he tried to warn every one about the horror that he witnessed but no one believed him because, like Elie, their faith was strong. Then things started to change when Elie got the news that he was being deported. He still didn't fully believe that anything bad would happen to them. He had faith that Hitler wasn't capable of doing anything to harm them. The moment the young pipel died, was the moment that Elie officially lost all of his faith. He was angry at God for putting all those innocent people through all that pain and suffering, and he no longer believed that God was real.
Elie went from a spiritual, sensitive little boy to a spiritually dead, unemotional man through the concentration camp. Elie knows this because in the novel when his father was being beaten by Idek he couldn't be mad at Idek, he was mad at his father for being in the way of one of Idek's "tantrums". This scene is when Elie realized he was changing he was becoming someone that wasn't him. This was him becoming unemotional. When he became spiritually "dead" is when he witnessed the death of the young Pipel, or the "sad-eyed angel", he began to question if god was even alive anymore because of the fate of this young angel.
Elie transforms from a spiritually emotional young boy to emotionally and spiritually dead because of what he had experienced when his home was taken over by the Germans. Everything that Elie had before; is gone he lost his faith when his invision of God Was hung for not telling who had the guns, he even got angry at his father's failures. From extremely religious to having no faith in God at all; Elie went through too much and God never gave him a sign that hope was coming or to be patient for the allies; Elie felt that his god wasn't a true God because if he were he would've already brought hope or Savior for him and solmol.
Elie makes a dramatic change from a spiritual little boy to a spiritually dead man because of the hardships he has experienced throughout his time in the Holocaust. The death of the pipel and the departure of rabbi Eliahou"s son. These deaths made Elie look at God in a different way and realize that it was time for him to grow up. The last straw for Elie's faith is the death of a piple . His "of a sad angel" ,Elie put this into the story to show that this little boy was unprotected by all but God should have helped him and didn't .From that point on Elie had to realize that God was no longer there for him ,so he stopped believing. The departure of of the rabbi Eliahou's son. I believe that Elie was effected by this because it was him realized what this camp could turn people into. Elie sees the the rabbi son turning his back on his on father and even wants to go back to his religion at this point. I believe that when he said " my God , lord of the universe, give me the strength never to do what rabbi Eliahou' s son has done". Elie states that also " a prayer rose in my heart, to that God whom i no longer believed"This means to me that Elie did not believe in the prayer he prayed. Also showing that ELie grew up and changed in to nonspiritual man would in order to defeat the hardship[s of the camps.
