  1. The connotation of nighttime helps develop the symbolism of the absence of god because Elie says his whole holocaust experience almost felt like "a long night" filled with terror and forced labor. Him and the rest of his town had to deal with horrible living conditions and abuse everyday. He often asked himself why god allowed those horrible things to occur to them and why was god punishing them and letting the rest of the world see them deal with it and not care or lend a helping hand. "For the first time , I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should i bless his name? ... What had I to thank him for? ".When saying "the absence of god" he means god not being there to protect them and stop the inequality of Jews. Elie was "tested" throughout the entire story to see if he could endure the pain and still hold onto his faith, since religion was a big part to Elie's life.

  2. The connotation of night helped develop the symbolism of the absence of god because when something is a dark place dark things happen. In the book Wiesel didn’t want to pray because he felt like there was no god because of what happened to them. He also did this because in the story where he is in a dark place and his hope was taken away when he stepped off the train. He still believed God in the end but at this time he was put where he could stray away from his faith. When he strayed away he was a very nasty person and soon began praying again. When he stepped off that train he became bitter and his faith began to be tested. When he stopped praying he stopped have emotion and when he was in the camp he let things that he normally would care about not bother him. The camp made him lose a lot of things and he has only been there a little while once he got over understanding why he was mad at god he was able to have faith again.

  3. the connotation of night helps develope the symbolism the absence of god because he said it was a "long night" indicating that it was a long time without hope an hard labor.he also used this symbolism because his hopes an dream had been lost because of this dark time in his life. He still strongly believed in God but during this time he was put in a place where his face was lost an he wasn't feeling God as helping him through it all.we. he stopped praying he lost emotions that was dealing with his faith.Even though he lost his faith he was able to gain it back by understanding what God was doing an he gained his faith back.

  4. The connotation night helps develop the symbolism of night by aiding the reader to what the symbolism night is. When you think of the word night you normally associate it with fear, melancholy, and darkness;in the book "Night" Elie is faced with terrible and inhumane experiences that make him question his faith in God which he views as very important, but that begins to fade quickly while he tries to survive in Auschwitz. "Night" emphasizes how much pain and suffering the Jews had experienced but it mainly shows how Elie's faith is affected, and how one night of hopelessness, tears and realization of how terrible people can truly be affected Elie throughout his life time.

  5. The connotation of night helps develop the symbolism of night because of Elie's experience at the Concentration Camps. he explains his first night as a "long night", indicating that the day may never end, or the horror of what he was going through is never ending. He never thought such torture what happened to him or anyone in his family. he questioned his faith, and he questioned if God was real. "Why should i bless his name?" Was one of the thought going through his head when he believed that the German SS officers were going to burn all the Jews alive in the crematorium. The "absence of god" was what really put Elies faith to the test, despite what he believed in.

  6. The connotation of nighttime helped develop the symbolism of night because in the novel Elie says that his first night in the camp is,"one long night." This means that he felt his first night in the camp was the longest night since he was in the Holocaust. Referring to it as never ending. I think the word "night" symbolizes his time in the Holocaust, this would mean that he felt he was in the Holocaust longer than he was. Like he would never wake up from the dream he was having in his bed in his home in Sighet.

  7. The connation of night helps in many ways to establish the true symbolism of “night”. The first way is by darkness. The word night means a period of darkness. I believe that Elie was trying to convey that time he spent in the camp was his “period of darkness”. Throughout the book Elie foreshadows him as well as his families time in the camp at Auschwitz. The time he says “poor father ! Of what did you die?”Elie then is telling us that his father's nevieness is what killed but also that the Jewish people relied on religion heavily. That fact even though his father is dead and was going through a terrible time he still can have faith in God.
The absence of God is shown through the connation of God also by the camps conditions. The camp is very cold and dirty . This mental put in our heads when Elie says"the antechamber of hell must look like this"Wiesel want the people to see that the condition were something of hell and not of heaven . The connotation of God is light, clean, and peace . The camps nor the actions reflect any of this .
In conclusion the absence of god is shown through the connation of "night " because of the conditions of the camp and the strong religious background of the Jewish people. The symbolism is mostly shown when the reader hears Elie explain how his faith is winding down and the hard labor he is about to put in.

  8. The connotation of night helps develop the symbolism of night because night in this sense represents darkness, loneliness, and death. Night represents the absence of God because God wasn't present when the little angelic pipel boy got killed . His little body wasn't heavy enough so he died slowly. He just hung there and God didn't do anything about it. Once that happened and once Elie witnessed that, his belief in God disappeared.
